Trip Overview
Three summits in the dramatic Black Mountains on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons. The Black Mountains are one of Wales's most underrated mountain ranges — long ridgelines, steep escarpments, and a sense of remoteness that belies their proximity to the English border. The three-peak route takes in the highest and most dramatic summits, following high ridges with views across the Usk Valley to the west and into Herefordshire to the east. The walking is on open moorland with some pathless sections that add to the adventure.
Who is this for?
A challenging day requiring good hill fitness and confidence on open mountain terrain. Some pathless sections require basic navigation awareness. The ridgeline walking can be exposed in wind.
